In the past twenty years hundreds of infants and young children have died after being left in vehicles, usually by accident. When turning the vehicle off, drivers of the Sierra EV are reminded to check the back seat if they opened the rear door before starting out. The Cybertruck doesn’t offer a back seat reminder.

To provide maximum traction and stability on all roads, Full-Time Four-Wheel Drive is standard on the Sierra EV. But it costs extra on the Cybertruck.

The GMC Sierra EV has Daytime Running Lights to help keep it more visible under all conditions. Canadian government studies show that driving with lights during the day reduces accidents by 11% by making vehicles more conspicuous. The Cybertruck doesn’t offer Daytime Running Lights.

The Sierra EV has standard OnStar®, which uses a global positioning satellite (GPS) receiver and a cellular system to get turn-by-turn driving directions, remotely unlock your doors if you lock your keys in, help track down your vehicle if it’s stolen or send emergency personnel to the scene if any airbags deploy. The Cybertruck doesn’t offer a GPS response system, only a navigation computer with no live response for emergencies, so if you’re involved in an accident and you’re incapacitated help may not come as quickly.

Both the Sierra EV and the Cybertruck have standard driver and passenger frontal airbags, front side-impact airbags, side-impact head airbags, front seatbelt pretensioners, height adjustable front shoulder belts, four-wheel antilock brakes, traction control, electronic stability systems to prevent skidding, crash mitigating brakes, lane departure warning systems, blind spot warning systems, around view monitors, rear cross-path warning and available driver alert monitors.

The GMC Sierra EV weighs 675 to 2749 pounds more than the Tesla Cybertruck. The NHTSA advises that heavier vehicles are much safer in collisions than their significantly lighter counterparts.

There are over 8 times as many GMC dealers as there are Tesla dealers, which makes it much easier should you ever need service under the Sierra EV’s warranty.

J.D. Power and Associates’ 2025 Initial Quality Study of new car owners surveyed provide the statistics that show that GMC vehicles are better in initial quality than Tesla vehicles. With 1 fewer problems per 100 vehicles, JD Power ranks GMC higher than Tesla.

In an emergency stopping situation, many drivers don’t press the brakes with enough force to stop the vehicle in the shortest distance. The Sierra EV has standard Brake Assist to detect emergency braking situations (by how hard and how quickly the brake pedal is pressed) and then automatically apply maximum braking immediately in order to help prevent a collision. The Cybertruck doesn’t offer a brake assist feature.

The Sierra EV’s optional tires provide better handling because they have a lower 50 series profile (height to width ratio) that provides a stiffer sidewall than the Cybertruck’s 65 series tires.

For better ride, handling and brake cooling the Sierra EV offers optional 24-inch wheels. The Cybertruck’s largest wheels are only 20-inches.

The GMC Sierra EV’s wheels have 8 lugs for longer wheel bearing life, less chance of rotor warping and greater strength. The Tesla Cybertruck only has 6 wheel lugs per wheel.

The Sierra EV has a standard easy tire fill system. When inflating the tires, the vehicle’s integrated tire pressure sensors keep track of the pressure as the tires fill and tell the driver when the tires are inflated to the proper pressure. The Cybertruck doesn’t offer vehicle monitored tire inflation.

For a smoother ride and more stable handling, the Sierra EV’s wheelbase is 2.9 inches longer than on the Cybertruck (146 inches vs. 143.1 inches).

For better maneuverability, the Sierra EV AT4’s turning circle is 4.4 feet tighter than the Cybertruck’s (39.1 feet vs. 43.5 feet).

The Sierra EV’s standard towing capacity is much higher than the Cybertruck’s (8500 vs. 7500 pounds). Maximum trailer towing in the Tesla Cybertruck AWD is only 11000 pounds. The Sierra EV offers up to a 12500 lbs. towing capacity.

The Sierra EV has a standard heads-up display that projects speed, warning, navigation instruction, infotainment and driver assistance information readouts in front of the driver’s line of sight, allowing drivers to view information without diverting their eyes from the road. The Cybertruck doesn’t offer a heads-up display.

The Sierra EV’s standard side window demisters help clear frost or condensation from the side windows in the winter. The Cybertruck doesn’t even offer side window demisters, so the driver may have to wipe the windows from the outside to gain side vision.

The Sierra EV is equipped with both FM and AM stereo radios, offering access to more content and better coverage than the Cybertruck, which solely provides FM radio. The Sierra EV’s optional Enhanced Automatic Parking Assist can parallel park or back into a parking spot by itself, starting, stopping and changing direction automatically. Remote Automatic Parking will park and retrieve your car remotely: press a button and watch it park itself. This is ideal for tight locations. The Cybertruck doesn’t offer an automated parking system.
