Safety

To provide maximum traction and stability on all roads, Full-Time Four-Wheel Drive is standard on the Hummer EV SUV. But it costs extra on the EV9.

The Hummer EV SUV has standard OnStar®, which uses a global positioning satellite (GPS) receiver and a cellular system to get turn-by-turn driving directions, remotely unlock your doors if you lock your keys in, help track down your vehicle if it’s stolen or send emergency personnel to the scene if any airbags deploy. The EV9 doesn’t offer a GPS response system, only a navigation computer with no live response for emergencies, so if you’re involved in an accident and you’re incapacitated help may not come as quickly.

Both the Hummer EV SUV and the EV9 have standard driver and passenger frontal airbags, front side-impact airbags, front seatbelt pretensioners, height adjustable front shoulder belts, four-wheel antilock brakes, traction control, electronic stability systems to prevent skidding, crash mitigating brakes, daytime running lights, lane departure warning systems, blind spot warning systems, rearview cameras, rear cross-path warning and driver alert monitors.

Warranty

The Hummer EV SUV’s corrosion warranty is 1 year longer than the EV9’s (6/100,000 vs. 5/100,000).

There are over 2 times as many GMC dealers as there are Kia dealers, which makes it much easier should you ever need service under the Hummer EV SUV’s warranty.

Reliability

J.D. Power and Associates’ 2023 Initial Quality Study of new car owners surveyed provide the statistics that show that GMC vehicles are better in initial quality than Kia vehicles. J.D. Power ranks GMC above average in initial quality. With 3 more problems per 100 vehicles, Kia is rated lower.

Brakes and Stopping

The Hummer EV SUV’s standard front and rear disc brakes are vented to help dissipate heat for shorter stops with less fading. The rear discs on the EV9 are solid, not vented.

Tires and Wheels

For better traction, the Hummer EV SUV has larger tires than the EV9 (305/55R22 vs. 255/60R19). The Hummer EV SUV’s tires are larger than the largest tires available on the EV9 (305/55R22 vs. 285/45R21).

For better ride, handling and brake cooling the Hummer EV SUV has standard 22-inch wheels. The EV9’s largest wheels are only 21-inches.

The GMC Hummer EV SUV’s wheels have 8 lugs for longer wheel bearing life, less chance of rotor warping and greater strength. The Kia EV9 only has 5 wheel lugs per wheel.

The Hummer EV SUV has a standard full size spare tire so a flat doesn’t interrupt your trip. A full size spare isn’t available on the EV9; it requires you to depend on roadside assistance and your vehicle will have to be towed.

Suspension and Handling

The Hummer EV SUV offers an available driver-adjustable suspension system. It allows the driver to choose between an extra-supple ride, reducing fatigue on long trips, or a sport setting, which allows maximum control for tricky roads or off-road. The EV9’s suspension doesn’t offer adjustable shock absorbers.

For a smoother ride and more stable handling, the Hummer EV SUV’s wheelbase is 4.7 inches longer than on the EV9 (126.7 inches vs. 122 inches).

For better handling and stability, the track (width between the wheels) on the Hummer EV SUV is 6.6 inches wider in the front and 6.1 inches wider in the rear than the average track on the EV9.

For better maneuverability, the Hummer EV SUV 2X/3X’s turning circle is 5.2 feet tighter than the EV9’s (35.4 feet vs. 40.6 feet).

For greater off-road capability the Hummer EV SUV 2 has a 2.4 inches greater minimum ground clearance than the EV9 (10.2 vs. 7.8 inches), allowing the Hummer EV SUV to travel over rougher terrain without being stopped or damaged. The Hummer EV SUV 2X/3X Extract’s minimum ground clearance is 8.2 inches higher than on the EV9 (16 vs. 7.8 inches).

Passenger Space

The Hummer EV SUV has 1.3 inches more front headroom, 4.2 inches more front legroom, 1.1 inches more front hip room, 2.3 inches more front shoulder room, 2.3 inches more rear hip room and 4 inches more rear shoulder room than the EV9.

Cargo Capacity

The Hummer EV SUV has a much larger cargo volume than the EV9 with its rear seat up (35.9 vs. 20.2 cubic feet).

The Hummer EV SUV’s rear cargo window opens separately from the rest of the right swing out door to allow quicker loading of small packages. The EV9’s rear cargo window doesn’t open.

Towing

The Hummer EV SUV’s standard towing capacity is much higher than the EV9’s (6000 vs. 2000 pounds).

Ergonomics

The Hummer EV SUV has a standard heated steering wheel to take the chill out of steering on extremely cold winter days before the vehicle heater warms up. A heated steering wheel costs extra on the EV9.
