For enhanced safety, the front seat shoulder belts of the GMC Sierra 1500 are height-adjustable to accommodate a wide variety of driver and passenger heights. A better fit can prevent injuries and the increased comfort also encourages passengers to buckle up. The Chevrolet Silverado Limited doesn’t offer height-adjustable seat belts.

Over 200 people are killed each year when backed over by motor vehicles. The Sierra 1500 offers optional Rear Cross Traffic Braking that uses rear sensors to monitor for objects to the rear and automatically applies the brakes to prevent a collision. The Silverado Limited doesn’t offer backup collision prevention brakes.

The Sierra 1500’s standard lane departure warning system alerts a temporarily inattentive driver when the vehicle begins to leave its lane and gently nudges the vehicle back towards its lane. A lane departure warning system costs extra on the Silverado Limited and is only available on Silverado Limited LTZ/High Country.

Both the Sierra 1500 and the Silverado Limited have standard driver and passenger frontal airbags, front side-impact airbags, side-impact head airbags, plastic fuel tanks, four-wheel antilock brakes, traction control, electronic stability systems to prevent skidding, daytime running lights, rearview cameras, available four-wheel drive, blind spot warning systems, around view monitors and rear cross-path warning.

J.D. Power and Associates rated the Sierra 1500 third among large light duty pickups in their 2023 Initial Quality Study. The Silverado Limited isn’t in the top three.

The Sierra 1500 has more powerful engines than the Silverado Limited:

The Sierra 1500’s 3.0 turbo diesel produces 28 more horsepower (305 vs. 277) and 35 lbs.-ft. more torque (495 vs. 460) than the Silverado Limited’s 3.0 turbo diesel.

Regardless of its engine, the Sierra 1500’s engine automatically turns off when the vehicle is stopped, saving fuel and reducing pollution. If the conditions warrant or the driver wishes, the system can be manually disabled at any time for the duration of a trip. The Silverado Limited V8 10-speed doesn’t offer an automatic engine start/stop system.

In its Green Vehicle Guide, the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) rates the GMC Sierra 1500 higher (5 to 7 out of 10) than the Chevrolet Silverado Limited (3 to 6). This means the Sierra 1500 produces up to 24.5 pounds less smog-producing pollutants than the Silverado Limited every 15,000 miles.

For better maneuverability, the Sierra 1500’s turning circle is tighter than the Silverado Limited’s:

The Sierra 1500’s minimum standard towing capacity is much higher than the Silverado Limited’s (8800 vs. 7400 pounds).

The Sierra 1500’s standard power windows allow the driver or passenger to lower and raise the windows without leaning over or being distracted. Power windows cost extra on the Silverado Limited.

The Sierra 1500’s standard power locks allow the driver or passenger to lock or unlock all the doors at a touch without leaning over. Power locks cost extra on the Silverado Limited.

The Sierra 1500 SLT/AT4/Denali’s standard wipers adjust their speed and turn on and off automatically according to the amount of rainfall on the windshield. The Silverado Limited’s manually variable intermittent wipers have to be constantly adjusted.

The Sierra 1500’s LED headlights produce a whiter, brighter light (up to 3x) using five times less power than the Silverado Limited’s standard halogen headlights. LED lights also light instantly and last over twenty times longer than halogen.

The Sierra 1500 has a standard center folding armrest for the driver and front passenger. A center armrest helps combat driver fatigue. The Silverado Limited Work Truck doesn’t offer a front seat center armrest.

The Sierra 1500 AT4X/Denali Ultimate has standard massaging front seats in order to maximize comfort and eliminate fatigue on long trips. Massaging seats aren’t available in the Silverado Limited.
